Big changes are coming to your favorite Office apps! Microsoft is testing a fresh set of redesigned icons

Microsoft is currently testing a new set of redesigned icons for its Office applications, signaling a visual update aimed at bringing a more modern and cohesive experience across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

The redesign, which is still in its testing phase, introduces updated icons for key apps including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. The new icons showcase smoother lines, refined color palettes, and a simplified aesthetic that aligns with Microsoft’s evolving design direction under Windows 11 and its Fluent UI principles.

Early glimpses from insider builds suggest that the changes are subtle but intentional — focusing on clarity, readability, and a lighter visual feel. Each icon now presents a more unified structure while still retaining its unique color and identity, making it easier to recognize while appearing less cluttered on both desktop and mobile interfaces.

“This is part of our broader goal to create a seamless experience for users across all platforms — from Windows PCs to smartphones and the web,” a Microsoft representative noted during internal testing feedback discussions.

The refreshed icons are currently being rolled out to a limited group of Microsoft 365 Insider Program users. Based on user feedback, further tweaks may be made before a full public release.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has reimagined its Office branding — but with growing emphasis on cross-platform harmony and productivity in hybrid work environments, this redesign reflects Microsoft’s push to keep its interface both familiar and forward-looking.

Users can expect a wider rollout in the coming months, likely paired with other UI enhancements across Microsoft 365.
