Microsoft Enabling IPv6 for Accepted Domains in Microsoft 365

Beginning on October 1st, 2024, Microsoft will start gradually enabling IPv6 for all customer Accepted Domains using Exchange Online for inbound mail. This modernization effort aims to help organizations comply with local regulations while enhancing security and performance through IPv6.

Once IPv6 is enabled for your Accepted Domains, any email sent to your domain will result in the querying of MX records returning both IPv4 and IPv6 (AAAA) addresses. This change allows for improved scalability and performance of email services. Ensure that your network's allow-lists are updated to include Exchange Online IPv6 endpoints in addition to the existing IPv4 endpoints. If your organization needs to remain IPv4-only, Microsoft will provide instructions on opting out of IPv6 for your Accepted Domains later this month.
